Question: MULTIPLE CHOICE: When should I drink my Whey Protein?
I am an athlete and I don't want to bulk up. I do need to get stronger though.

a) Every morning when I wake up and post weight lifting on monday, wednesday, and friday.
b) Only after I lift weights on monday, wednesday and friday.
c) On the morning of days I weight lift as well as post weight lifting.

d).

a) is a pretty good answer but I would take a dose before bed too. The reason it's good to take protein first thing in the morning is because after hours w/out available protein your muscles are starving for the amino acids required to repair, maintain, and build muscle tissue. You can decrease this effect by giving your body protein right before bed. Remember, the most muscle strengthening occurs during periods of rest, as long as adequate amino acids are available.



You can take it whenever, but it is most effective within 30-60 minutes after lifting. If your diet is not getting you up to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight then make another protein shake.

Another thing to look into is getting casein, which is slow digesting protein. I take casein in the morning, whey after lifting, and casein before bed.
