If you want to get into cycling, spend some time cycling instead.
Bike riding uses a different set of muscles than walking & the only way to get better at it, is to do more of it.

Why not try riding your commute? It's quicker than walking & much more fun than using motorized transport. Or perhaps go for early morning or late afternoons rides instead.
Create a variety of alternative routes with varying distances. Start with a short distance & gradually build up your level of endurance. As you improve your bike fitness, add more distance and hill climbing to your rides.

Make use of the weekends and go for longer steady paced bike rides. Make them enjoyable, by inviting a friend or by riding somewhere interesting (like the beach, a cafe, visiting a friend, the city centre etc)

Learn more about cycling by going to your local library & reading books on the subject. Learn how to "spin", how to best use the gears, how to change a flat tyre and do basic chain maintenance & consider giving padded bike shorts a try (they might not look fashionable, but they are really comfy).
And if in any doubt, ask for advice from your local bike shop.

Keep up with some regular walking, as combining walking and cycling is a good way to work a variety of muscle groups & it'll stop exercise from becoming boring.
When walking, you'll be better focusing on improving your speed and distance.

Instead of using a weighted vest, you'll be better focusing on improving your speed and distance.
But don't forget to about your upper body & regularly include some push-ups and plank exercises in to your normal routine. A circuit of these shouldn't take long to do & they'll give your upper body a better workout than a weighted vest would.
And hill climbing when walking is a good idea, as it'll help strengthen your legs and butt.

You use different muscles walking and cycling. Not completely different, but the only way to train to do one thing is to actually do it. However, it won't hurt though you should build up to the 10 miles a day walking if its what you really want to do.
