If you don't want to join a gym, there are so many things you can do at home. Swimming is the best workout for your entire body. I mean swim, not just splashing around. For the arms try to do as many push-ups you can when you wake up and before you go to bed.

The first thing I would suggest is to eat 4 or 5 small meals each day rather than 2 or 3 bigger ones! The next thing (very important) would be to be sure you get enough sleep on a regular basis. 6 to 8 hours per day is best.
I tried all kinds of diets, work out videos, etc. etc. It takes a combo of things to really get the metabolism up.
