Do i need to do weight training as well as cardio to keep weight off?!

Question: Do i need to do weight training as well as cardio to keep weight off?
I am running about 5 times a week but have heard to stay skinny you need muscle which helps to burn more calories. However i really do not want to bulk up. Should i start weight training?

Answers:

Don't worry about bulking. If you are doing cardio and limiting your caloric intake, you wont bulk up. Bulking is a way to gain muscle. In order to bulk and gain muscle, you need a significant calorie surplus. You have either a calorie deficit when slimming down or a calorie equilibrium while maintaining.

Lifting weights while losing weight will help to minimize your muscle loss in a calorie deficit and will help to strengthen and condition your muscles in a calorie equilibrium.

yes you can engage in weight training to build muscle. The more muscle we have the more calories we burn. Muscle burns calories 24 hours per day and not just when you are exercising. This is an excellent way to lose weight and keep it off. also eliminate or strictly limit, apart from the occasional treat, refined (processed) carbohydrates. because refined/processed carbohydrates are a major cause of weight gain, obesity and many diet related diseases.

If you run 5 times a week, you should be weight training 2 to 3 times a week to stave off chronic running injuries such as shin splints (leg extension), ankle issues (calf raises), knee issues (leg x, leg curl, squats, lunges).

Bulking up- as u put it- is a matter of genetics. Your body's blue print- your DNA- dictates your body type.

Weight training builds stronger bones, stronger muscles and stronger muscle attachments (tendons).

If you run, you know the importance of strong tendons.
