Question: Is it safe to pull more than my own weight?
I'm 17 yrs old 6'1 and weigh 70 kgs (154 lbs). I lift weights of upto 180-190 lbs. I read somewhere that its not safe for ppl below 20 to lift weights more than half their body weight. Soooo is that true???

Answers:

If you have been doing it for some time than keep going. The idea is that you shouldn't workout until you stop growing but you are 6'1 so I think it is safe to do. Just remember though, your bones might not be as strong as a 25 year old's.

My one buddy got a spine injury in high-school by benching heavy weights so I would watch out.

Nearly every injury done while lifting weights, if done because of poor form and improper technique. Other common lifting injuries include lifting to heavy with out a spotter and hitting yourself with a weight. Once again, working without a spotter on certain barbell exercises and hitting yourself with a weight usually happens because of sloppy form.

As long as your are using proper technique and common sense, lifting heavy is perfectly safe.
