how long can you go without eating before your body goes into starvation mode?!

Question: How long can you go without eating before your body goes into starvation mode?
ok, long story short, im eating a big dinner today, im on a 1200 calories diet, i skipped breakfast (i was very late for school and there were no more granola bars) and i skipped lunch, to be honest, im not that hungry (at the momet)
but i was wondering, is my body in starvation mode??
i mean ill be giving it food soon, (in a couple of hours or so), and i dont need it to store my only 1200 calories as FAT. i need to lose weight, not gain.
the last time i ate was around 12:30 last night if it makes a difference (i had yogurt, some oranges, bread... pretty miuch a late night bingeee:( )

anywyas, how long does it take, please dont be afraid to provide me with a site:)

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TAKE THE TIME AND ANWSSER!

Starvation mode depends on body fat ratios and certainly hitting that area is extrememly bad for your body and will in fact delay any weight loss. The only way to effectively and safely loose weight is by eating 3 balanced low fat meals a day and trying tactics like stopping when you are full or snacking on fruit. If you keep randomly missing meals and making your body starve for long periods it will actually maintain anything you sunsequently give it as its scared it won't get another meal and your weight loss will be slow or non existant.
Eating regularly will speed up metabolic rate which will result in steady weight loss. We all want to be slim honey but if you can understand more about the science behind how your body works it will give you better results.
I too used to skip breakfast and count the cals, all a very quick fix with no real lasting result, I quickly became bored and hungry and all the weight piled back on. Now I eat a good breakfast - toast or cereal and some fruit, a light lunch maybe a soup or salad and an evening meal, which can also be light or even just fruit. This way your body is reducing cals slowly not in a shock way that will make it worse.
Long lecture I know but after dieting for years I know what I'm saying! Xx

Dieter!

eat a snack and you will be fine (carbs like pretzels or bread to coat your stomach before the big dinner)
