i'm confused about how much calories i should burn/eat everyday.....please !


Question: I'm confused about how much calories i should burn/eat everyday.....please help?
okay, so on livestrong.net, for my active-less life and height, i can only eat up to 1,278 calories.

does this mean, in order to lose weight, I have to burn all of this? or more?

or does it mean i should try to eat 500 calories less a day...which would mean eating 778 calories (please dont say that's too little...i;m only 5'2 tall female)

i weigh 140 lbs ......

also i really don't think i can burn 1278 calories a day...thats ridiculous and hopefully i am wrong...

You burn calories just sitting there and breathing. The guideline for daily caloric consumption takes that in to consideration. What you burn during exercise is in addition to that.



It means that your base metabolic rate is 1278 which means that simply by living and breathing, your organs burn 1278 calories a day, not including excercise. So, if you sat like a slug all day doing nothing and ate 1278 calories a day you would maintain your weight, no problem.

However, to lose weight it is unhealthy to go below 1200 calories.... and if you go below 1000 calories your body automatically goes into starvation mode and your metabolism will slow right down. i suggest eating about 1200 calories a day, and doing 30-40 minutes of cardio as well as some sit ups and leg lifts etc.... and truuuuuuuuust me- YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT! :)
