Answers:

I was in your exact situation 20 years ago. I've kind of got an addictive personality. So I went from heavy duty drinking to heavy duty bicycle riding. I promised myself I would no longer drink during daylight hours because I really loved riding my bike. I also offered to be designated driver when I was out with friends. If you let bartenders know your intention ahead of time, they will often let you drink the soft drink of your choice for free while you're out. Best of luck to you!

I am on the same path and have been sober for 6 months now. I think getting a new habit goes a long way. I just started playing PS3 like mad and working like a mad man and even if my friends call I tell them to come over and they drink but I do not. I have also been on binges every weekend for the past ten years but I am now convinced I will make it. I do not plan on not drinking forever, but just not like that and I will wait till I lose a set weight and then drink little wine there and there.
