Oh boy! That is a loaded question and can lead to hundreds of possible answers.

Soda, whether diet or regular, can do the following harm:

--leave you dehydrated
--lowers your white blood cell count leaving your immune system compromised
--is loaded with sugar which throws off your metabolism and can rapidly raise blood sugar levels only leaving them to come crashing down
--weakens the pancrease due to constant release of hormones to combat the high levels of sugar
--increased stored body fat
--body uses whatever nutrients it has stored up to process the sugar, leaving your body at a nutrient-deficit
--the artificial sweeteners alone will kill you due to the fact that the body cannot process these chemicals because they don't know what they are or what to do with them. This also makes the liver work overtime to rid the body of this "toxin." This includes aspertame, sucralose, and even high fructose corn syrup.
--the acidity of most sodas can take the paint off a shiny new metal toy in no time
--daily consumption of soda has been linked to increase risk of heart disease--higher triglyceride levels, insulin levels, and increased belly fat
--the phosphoric acid deteriorates your bones, not just your teeth, and can increase the rate of osteoporisis
--the caffeine found in most sodas can increase insomnia, give you the jitters, leave you addicted, contribute to headaches, as well as an irregular heartbeat
--sugar found in sodas is the leading cause of weight gain in the US--not saturated fats as previously believed
--you're drinking your calories and are never fully satiated. You also don't ever think to count those calories which can add up to thousands of extra calories a month that go unaccounted for

That's all I could come up with for now, but I hope that is a good start!
