Question: How much does sugar really matter when trying to lose fat?
Cus I eat ALOT of fruit e.g. apples and raisins mainly....
Will this stop me from losing my flab?

sugar that is in fruit is natural and perfectly fine (unless you add sugar to it or the fruit was in canned syrup)

Anything that has artificial preservatives or high fructose corn syrup is not good for you



some believe that it doesn't matter whether you eat white sugar, or honey, or lots of fruits, the body sees all of the sugar as the same thing, it will process the sugar the same way. I agree, but some of these items have more than just the sugar in them (honey and fruits) which give better nutritional consideration.

However, you need to be very careful in eating lots of fruits. Last spring, I started scarfing down tons of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and other fresh fruits that were hideously inexpensive--cheap!!
I love it!! But in 2 weeks, I'd gained weight, from all the fresh sugar in the fruits. Even tho' fresh, I was eating sooo much---and loved it----that I gained weight.

it's better to use the fruit as energy source since natural, but also eat lots of veggies. THAT'S what will help you lose weight, because you burn calories eating and digesting, but most veggies don't have calories. There are few like corn and potoatoes that you should be careful with, but most veggies will provide a full stomach with low or no calories.



Contrary to what people are saying, fruit will have nearly the same effect as trash sugar in regards to burning fat.

The reason fruit is benneficial compared to other sugar is that it is very rich in nutrients.

Fruit causes insulin spikes (as all sugar does, as all carbohydrates do) which transport energy to muscles and essentially any part of the body that needs to be maintained. It is not an "evil" thing that makes you grow and get fat, but you have to understand that having a constant sugar boost or insulin spike will prevent fat being used as a fuel.

Do not avoid fruit, but try to time it around activity, the idea being whatever sugar you have in your system, your body uses it before you rest - this is the idea of some diets which ask you not to eat carbs after 5pm, the carbs/fruit/sugar you do eat in the day will be used, and later in the evening your insulin level will be low (and thus you wont be building/transporting/storing energy, you will be using fuel reserves(fat))


So summary is, the vitamins/fibre and general bennefit of fruit make it a great part of a diet, it does not however change the method that sugar works. Eat it before work, have a little for lunch 4 portions of good quality fruit (kiwi/orange/berries - maybe avoid banana/grapes/melon) but try stick to green veg past lunch.

In spite of everything we hear or read about our health, bodies are not the same but sugar will always end up in the same process in our body system. I have a friend who is diabetic she never eats sugar but eats very healthily that is, like vegetables and fruits a lot, all different sorts and she is expected to loose weight, her nurse told her that it is the fruits she has been eating even though they are natural but could be detrimental to her health. Now she eats CRISPS as occasional snacks and she is better off. Lost weight and doing fine.
