Why is it so hard for me to do pull ups?!

Question: Why is it so hard for me to do pull ups?
I am a 17 year old male. I am about 5'5'', and I am very thin. I weigh about 118-120 pounds. I look very thin, and my upper-body is so very skinny. Mainly because all my weight, goes to my legs. It is nearly impossible for me to do pull ups. I used to be able to do about 5 pull ups, but barely. Now that I have taken it easy, Pull ups are really hard for me. I now struggle to do about 1-2 pull ups. I just started working out today, and I was Amazed on how soft I've become. Is there a way for me to gain weight? The Healthy Way. I want to first gain atleast 10-12 Pounds, with really healthy food, and with atleast 3 course meals. What is some good healthy food for me to eat, but don't say eggs cause I don't like it. I already know what I'm going to eat for Breakfast. I'll eat 2 toasted wonder bread sandwiches with only peanut butter on it, jelly is not that healthy, so I won't put it. But what do I eat for lunch and dinner? Once I gain some weight, I'll probably have some more strength. But I am very skinny like my dad, so it's going to be hard for me to gain the weight. Then I will start weight lifting. Any suggestions?

Answers:

Well you need to eat a lot more & 5 times a day not 3. Drink milk & fruit juice. Start weight training now not later.

You want to begin by doing exercises to strengthen your upper body, including your biceps, triceps, lats, etc. You want to target your arms, chest, shoulders and your back muscle groups. This will take research, time, and determination. Use a search engine to find some basic exercises for each muscle group and begin there.

You need to learn about nutrition as well. The link below will give you some guidelines that should help you begin healthy eating habits and learn what your body requires.

It's hard because, you're weak. Keep working at and you'll notice it get easier because you will be stronger. Rest a day or two in between so that your muscles can grow. It's during the rest period that you actually get stronger as your muscles repair themselves stronger after being torn during workouts.

try building up your strength with other methods of working your upper body like using dumbells untill you build up your strength first.
