If I lose 40 pounds will my stomach become flat?!

Question: If I lose 40 pounds will my stomach become flat?
I'm a girl and I'm 5'2". I talked to my doctor about wanting to lose 40 pounds and he said that would be safe for me to do, and give me a healthy BMI. I used to be about 110 pounds before gaining weight from a medication mixed with lack of exercise and poor eating habits. I'm trying to get back to that 110 pounds. Anyways, I've been eating a very healthy diet, drinking lots of water, getting enough sleep, and exercising 4-5 days a week. I usually do toning exercises (planks, squats, lunges, etc.) everyday, cardio (riding my elliptical machine or doing exercise dvds for 30-60 minutes) 2-3 times a week, and I lift dumbbells about 3 times per week. I've already started to see some weight come off. I do have a pooch belly though. As I lose more weight and body fat, will my stomach become leaner and flatter? I know you can't spot reduce, but I figure if I'm losing both weight and body fat, the stomach, thigh, and arm fat will come off as well, right? Thanks.

Answers:

Will your stomach become flat? I don't know, that depends on how you do it.

If you have to lose 40lbs, then you will notice a major difference by the time you get down to that weight. As you said, you can't spot reduce fat, but if you look at where you gain weight most easily, that's most likely to be where it goes from last... it's called Murphy's Law.

Keep exercising and keep going. As you exercise more, you can then start targeting different areas more too.

Good luck!
