Second day after gym and still sore, should I anyway go today?!

Question: Second day after gym and still sore, should I anyway go today?
I worked out Thursday, its now saturday and I'm still sore from my workout. I did 20mins on the cross trainer & full body workout.

My aim is to tone up. Later to gain some more muscle.

Your muscle soreness is called DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness. This usually lasts the first 2-3 weeks after you begin strength training and to a lesser extent when you incorporate a new workout or new techniques.

Go ahead to the gym, get used to the pain. It does become more bearable.

Compression clothing does help with preventing some injuries as well as help minimize DOMS. Hot HOT showers will also help as well.

The soreness is one of two things: DOMS (as Chaos suggested) and/or a build up of lactic acid (which you are not accustomed to yet). Lactic acid is a waste material your muscles produce from strenuous work. The best way to decrease the soreness is to do some good stretching of the muscles before and after you work out, stretching before you start in a good warm up and gets the muscles ready...and stretching afterward is a good cool down and loosens up the muscles so all the lactic acid gets moved around so there is no muscle stiffness or the muscles becoming sore. And you do need to let your body rest in between hard workout days, because your muscles need a break or you could end up overworking them and injure those muscles in the process of working out.

I use the gym a lot, but I know how you feel. Whenever you take a break from working out and you're just getting back into it, every workout is going to make you feel like hell the next day. This means that you've been working hard and doing well! The best thing to do when just getting into working out is to do a Hard day followed by a Light day to warm up and stretch out those sore muscles. Keep this pattern going for six days, and take a rest on the seventh. You'll find that after you start exercising the muscles will loosen up and it will be easier to keep going. The soreness the next day fades with time, but you might have to give it a month or so :)

Make it hurt so good!

Yes you should work out today.I run five miles Tuesday through Saturday and Sundays I run eight. Monday is the day off. You need to have a rest day so your body isn't overwhelmed.
Good job!
