Will this help me lose weight?!

Question: Will this help me lose weight?
I am a 15 year old girl. I lived with my totally vegan dad and was restricted to that type of diet for about a year. I think i may have lost like 10 pounds, but that was with just healthy food and no exercise.
I'm still chubby and I just want to feel happy with myself, so I am going to start a healthier lifestyle.
I go to a High School that is on a college campus and there are buildings spread veryyyyyyy far apart frum eachother. Each hour I walk hills and steps long distances to get to my classes. Along with this, I will start not snacking so much, eating lean meats and more fruit. And stopping my addiction to sodas!! Will this help me, and any other tips thank you. <3
I cannot go to a gym.

Hey, I'm 15 too, and I've been trying to lose weight also. And, yes, any little healthy change to your diet will help you. I went from drinking about a liter of mountain dew a day, to nothing but water. It helped me a lot, and it makes me feel so much better about myself to be able to say that I can go without any soda. Plus, it keeps you away from hundreds of calories a day, depending on how much you drink of course.

Also, you don't need a gym to lose weight! There's many things you can do that can get you going. And they can be fun too. I'm a big fan of hoola hooping. And I have a friend that has lost about 20 pounds just from doing a basic every day schedule on the wii! Those games where you just dance along with the person on the screen can burn more calories than you think! And even if you don't have a hoola hoop or a wii, you can always take a nice walk outside. :)

Hope I helped. :)

Walking is just as good as running if you go the same distance, in terms of calories burned. If you're walking a lot of hills that's a great exercise.

I think you're exactly on track.

Hi Apsu,

Yeah no worries about not being able to gym,
the things you mentioned such as walking from building to building is good that will help you to burn calories and not drinking soda are all things that will help you.

But something that will really help you is you must have an intense physical workout to see results. You can do any type of workout you want, can be an outdoor activity such as biking, hiking, swimming anything that you enjoy doing as long as it requires physical exertion.

Your diet is very important to, stay away from processed foods such as candy, snacks and fried foods.

Hope this helps for you.

Definitely cut out high fat and sugar. I would suggest try a more intense work out instead of just walking. Walking is good don't get me wrong however running is better. Your heart gets a work out as well as you body and you loose weight quickly. Even if you can only run 30 min a day that is better than nothing. Remember to drink lots of water and get enough sleep. Also don't severely cut your calorie intake. Most people believe that if they eat 1,000 calories each day they will loose weight. They will loose weight all right but it will be weight from muscles not fat. Also your body goes into starvation mode so the calories you do eat will be stored as fat. So eat 3 healthy meals a day. Best of luck.

Here are some simple things I recommend: DRINK WATER. I could give you the entire explanation for why this is sooo important but, in short, drinking water will increase your metabolism, cleanse your body, and also help keep you full. Drinking water helps with you skin too! Take it from me, I never ever used to drink enough water, but for the last month I have been drinking TONS! I have a jug of water on my desk at home at all times and I take a water bottle with me everywhere. I drink more than 3 liters every day. At first you'll have to go to the bathroom all the time, but this is just your body getting rid of all the water it stored up over time because it always thought you were dehydrated! You may find that you even lose a little bit of weight while your body is dumping out that old water. I'm addicted to water now! If you can, try to never drink juice or anything, just water.
For a proper explanation of why drinking water is good for weight loss, go to this site, it's awesome:

Less calories in than calories out equals weight loss. This is the simple fact of trying to lose weight. To figure out how many calories you're supposed to eat try a daily calorie intake calculator like this:
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
It will tell you how many calories you need to eat a day at your CURRENT weight, now from this number you will want to take away 500 calories. One pound of fat is 3500 calories. If you were trying to burn a pound a week, you would need to eat 500 calories less than your daily intake.

COUNT YOUR CALORIES. This method is just awesome. If you have an ipod, there are TONS of free calorie counting apps. I personally prefer Lose It! even though I'm sure they're all great. You can insert the foods you eat and the nutrition information is all in there. You can put in your exercise, set goals. It will tell you how much you need to eat to lose the weight you want to lose and even tell you the estimated date of when you will be at your goal weight. There are also loads of free calorie counting websites on the internet.

Pay attention to the nutritional data on things. I never used to pay attention to this but now I do and wow I never realized how but some things are for you. Watch a few instructional videos on youtube to figure out what all the little things mean and what's bad and what's good. For example, you should try not to eat anything if it has over 500mg of sodium.

Exeerrciiissseeeeeee! Even if it's just walking here and there, it makes a different, it really does. Exercise and eating right and that's all you need good luck!!!
