I am 5 feet tall also. You are within the healthy weight range for our height.

You can definitely exercise without a gym. Running and walking is excellent exercise and only requires sneakers. You can also purchase a couple of hand weights 3 and 5 lbs at target or walmart for very little money (3 lb dumbbells are less than 5 dollars and 5 lb dumbbells are around 5-7 dollars a set). You can get a fitness dvd to start working out (Jillian Michaels and Jari Love are good ones). Or start reading magazines like Fitness or Shape to start learning about how to exercise and eat right.

Good luck!

Well, healthy weight is more about fat and where it is than about a number.
And as far as a gym, why not try walking and other free exercises. A LOT of what you can do at a gym, you can replicate at home, or school.
Walk for short trips instead of a car or bus. Ride a bicycle. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
When you walk, carry a small (5 lbs at most) weight in one hand and keep you back straight. Switch hands occasionally.

Once all the stuff you can do at home is easy, and you're really ready to continue exercising, then think again about going to a gym.

The only reason to START by going to a gym is if you have very poor exercise discipline (like I do)

First you need to do some running to loose the layer of fat covering your abs . Running is a good way to loose weight. I would suggest run from 30 min to 1 hour every day. Don't forget to do a warm up and cool down (light walking for about 5 min), Stay hydrated, and stretch out after your cool down. Then you should do crunches to tone your abs. Sit ups work just as well however they add strain to the lower back. Don't cut your calorie intake below 1,500 however stay away from high fat and high sugar items. Eat three healthy meals a day and drink lots of water. Good luck.

eat good, and do 20 sit ups a night, within a week you should be confident enough to start doing 50, maybe add some press ups before or after, occasional jog round the block?

i done this for 2 months, and at the end of it i could do 50 full sit ups in 48 seconds, my best achievement, i can now do around 200-250 sit ups without stopping

Your...umm... rather tall. Wouldn't you say?
