I only eat 1500 calories a day but apparently i need more?!

Question: I only eat 1500 calories a day but apparently i need more?
I only ever really eat about 1500 calories a day.
However i am really active, doing about 7 or more hours of exercise a week.
I am female and 5'9" and at the moment i weigh around 125 pounds.

I have been on calculators and it says i should be eating around the 2000 stage but if i eat more than 1500 calories i put on weight. Why?

I recommend ask a nutritionist or doctor

It worries me when people come to yahoo for health advice.

Yes, you should be consuming more calories. The reason you're only 125lb at a height of 5ft9 is probably because you undereat for the activty level.

Also you may be underestimating calories. For all the food you eat, the portions would have to be miniscule for that to ony total 1500 calories. Sometimes it's because people understimate their portion size, other times because they fail to count food items like dressings, sauces, oils etc, and also as some people assume ANY small food portion = less calories where in reality it depends on how calorie dense the food is. For example cheese and chocolate are very calorie dense where as most vegetables are not. Therefore a small chunk of cheese or chocolate may contain the same calorie content as two big plates of vegetables!

If you are fit and happy with your size don't worry. The calculators take an average and nobody is average. I have a thyroid which doesn't work, if I eat 1500 calories a day I put weight on.
If you are eating crisps, cake, chocolate, cereal bars, cheese and pasta I doubt if you are only eating 1500 calories a day. They are all loaded with calories, maybe you just need a new calorie counter !

Yes 2000 or 1800 calories is really the healthy and recommended amount of calories to eat each day. When you up the amount of calories you eat and put on weight it's probably because you're body and metabolism are getting used to this change. If you stick to this amount for a little bit your body would sort itself out. :)

It's weird, I'm the same height as you and my body's a bit like that. It's prob cos your body has adjusted to getting 1500 calories and working on that so it doesn't need any more.

It wouldn't hurt you to put on some weight though, you're really light for 5'9.

The 2000 might be for if you're extremely super active. I'm 5'9 also, and 115lbs. I eat about 1500 also and feel gross if I have 2000. Some calculators are a bit off

good question. what are you eating? you are thin for your height.

Idk cuz I though 1500 was the normal amount women are supposed to eat and men is 2000! Even though I barely eat 1000 lol!
