Answers:
Your son learns from his parents' example.
He also is too young to buy his own food. He isn't the one buying all the junk food, is he now??
SO: anything that is going to save his life is going to have to affect your whole family. STOP buying junk food. START buying vegetables and fruits. TEACH him how to make a healthy snack. TEACH him what fat is, and what portion size is.
Then, make it a family outing to the park or after dinner to walk. Join the YMCA (they have scholarships if you can't afford it).
It may be hard, it may be painful, but it is his life.

Well you said he likes video games right? so you could try the wi fit. im sorry but that is so overweight i don't think a normal diet and exercise plan are going to work. you should watch everything he eats and add up the calories, then cut whatever he is eating in half. im guessing the amount will still be above the recommended, but for the first weeks have him eat that many calories with 95% of them being from healthy foods and start doing things like wi fit and catch. after his cravings go away cut him back to however many calories are recommended for his age and maybe look into sports like soccer.
You need to get him off ALL meat, diary, eggs and other animal products and have him eating fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, and nuts and legumes. Cut out fat and overly processed foods. Not only is that stuff horrible for you but it is even worse for the planet and billions of times worse for the animals. I am serious when I say all animal products that stuff is basically poisoning us and we don't even really know it.
You cannot get cholesterol from plant based foods and you are less likely to get heart problems and sick from cutting out the animals. I did it years ago and rarely get sick and am exercising a lot more.
Add more raw whole foods to his diet, if he likes something sweet make him a fruit and vegetable smoothie. Sneaking in veggies is really easy with these recipies and he probably won't notice,

Also get him to exercise a lot more. Play games like capture the flag or as you said baseball and football and things where you have to run and move around. If he wants video games stick too the Wii which can get you a bit more active but don't let him play very often.
