If I drink protein shakes to gain weight do I have to lift heavy weights?!

Question: If I drink protein shakes to gain weight do I have to lift heavy weights?
Or will 10 lb weights and lotsa cardio be good? Cuz I don't wanna get manly I just wanna gain weight and be toned. I am starting turbo jam soon, will that be good when drinking soy protein shakes?

Answers:

preferably u want to lift heavier.. thats the best way to push and challenge the muscles..

because light lifting is mostly speed and mometum its too easy..

your not going to get manly unless u eat 4000 calories a day and take steroids.. and something tells me your not doing that :)

whey protein is the way to go.. drop the soy.... it raises estrogen
and yes u need more protein to recover your body and build muscle..

If the only weights you lift is 10lb, you definitely don't need protein shakes. Doing cardio every day is gonna make you loose weight, but if you work-out with weights at least 3 times a week and do cardio 2 times a week you should be just fine. When you do weights on your last set increase by few lbs, don't be afraid to lift 20 lb, or more. You can eat protein, in chicken, beans, egg whites etc....

Not really sure if taking protein shakes is the way to go. After all when I hear protein shakes I think "add mass". But, then again, I guess it's okay to have just one shake a day. It really all depends on your diet. Maintain a healthy diet, low fat, low sodium, low carb, high in protein. High rep low to medium weight is the key to toning. Also, doing classes like the one you mentioned, zumba etc will help. Listening to the Top Gun soundtrack while working out has also been known to help.

Be careful. Too much excess protein isn't good for your kidneys. You probably get enough protein from your regular diet.
Excess protein is not stored by your body, you excrete it. Thus the potential harm to your kidneys. So be careful, and consult your doctor or a nutritionist.

If you are not tearing and damaging your muscle and drinking protein, than you are wasting your money.
