Question: I have a friend who weighs 245 pounds and who is 5' 8" and is 17. Obviously she is overweight, could you help.?
I want to help my friend. Obviously she is overweight, but can you give me some tips on how to help her lose the weight. It would help a tone and I would really appreciate it.

Answers:

She should make lifestyle changes in her diet and physical activity habits. She should see a nutrtitionist/other health care professional. Surgery is also an option.

Unless your friend is ready to lose weight and is committed to it, nothing you do or try to do will make any difference. If she is ready, you can help her by getting involved in daily exercise with her...a walk, or a workout of some kind. You can also help her by being there for her and encouraging her. Again, though, if she's not ready there's not much you can do. You'll just make her angry and she'll even feel worse about herself.

I'm 5' 8" and 17 just like your friend and I'm around 115-120 pounds currently. But before that I lost 30 pounds and that was just from changing the way I eat. It's not easy to lose weight for everyone but I'd suggest joining her with eating healthier foods. It'll help her if she's not doing it alone or with a group of strangers. I think that exercising could be another thing. Just remember that you don't need to get a gym pass or anything. Your friend could just run to a store etc. or get involved with sports. All of these things will help her and the healthy food that you make a home from scratch tastes amazing!

Exercise Regularly - People who exercise regularly not only lose weight faster, they are more successful at keeping it off. Exercise makes it possible to create a calorie deficit and lose weight without starving your body and slowing your metabolism.

Take Control of What You Eat - There are few things that we have complete control over, but what we put in our mouths is one of them. We don't have to lose control in a restaurant or a friend's home, and we don't have to eat everything that's put in front of us.

Eat Frequently, and Eat Slowly - It is important to understand what happens when you skip a meal or go on a crash diet. When you skip a meal your metabolism slows to conserve your energy.

Eat More Fruits, Vegetables and Whole Grains - People who eat healthy, mostly unprocessed foods, including fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and limited amounts of lean animal protein, often find that they can eat as much as they want without gaining weight.

Eat More Fiber - Fiber makes us feel full sooner and stays in our stomach longer than other substances we eat, slowing down our rate of digestion and keeping us feeling full longer.
