Question: I need to get my pushups number to 50 by April 12th, I can do 20. Help?
Okay so what is a good strategy to get myself to 50? I'm assuming this is possible. Could anyone help me out? I've been doing pushups every hour on the hour.

Answers:

Personally, I'd restrict myself to 2-3 times a day(because every hour on the hour, will just drain you, and not build explosiveness(which is what you want to stimulate)) and do 5 sets of 10 at first, with a 15 sec break in between, then as you start to control that, make it 4 sets of 12(15 in the last set), and so on till you got 50 at once, do 'em quick, and compact.

That way you'll really be pushing your limit, and you'll build up lactic acid which is needed for muscle growth.

If you eat well enough, I'm pretty sure you can get this done before April, so you should be alright.
So make sure you get enough protein(and if you have any, take an extra multivitamin).

Instead of just doing pushups you can do other weight training exercises for the muscles that support the pushups such as chest
triceps and biceps. Dumbbell curls, pullups, bench press, skull crushers can enhance the number of pushups you can do believe me. I am 19 and weigh around 150 lb I bench 245lb and can do 100 hundred pushups straight like nothing. It's all about making your body used to lifting heavier weight than your body weight as you do that pushups will become very easy.

Your muscles need more time to recover if you are straining them. Do as many as you can do, even partial push ups, until you can do no more. Then, try staying in plank for as long as you can (basically, the up position of a push up). There's also a yoga pose I really like where you use nothing but your hands and toes to hold your body parallel to the floor with your nose an inch or two from the floor. Repeat a couple of sets. Stop after you've done this for an hour. Then don't do any push ups until 2 days from then.

hey
the more you do each day wont help this
i would suggest doing 20 a day
then upping it by 5 the next day or the day after because this will give your muscles chance to recover and you will gain strength
but if you do them on the hour you wont give your body chance to recover
hope this helps
