Confused about weight loss calorie intake and cardio?!

Question: Confused about weight loss calorie intake and cardio?
Hello I am a 23 year old female 5'8 165 and I want to lose 25 lbs. I keep hearing everywhere that you need to eat in order to lose weight which I understand. I also heard that if I consume less than 1000 calories a day I can actually gain weight. I plan on doing cardio 40-60 min a day in order to reach my goal. I need an idea of what to eat in order to lose weight. I believe in the whole consuming mini meals to keep my metabolism fueled. In fact I was thinking about doing the special K challenge:

The diet is basically eating their cereal and cereal bars along with balanced meals like baked chicken and brown rice etc.

I guess the question is for my weight and height how much cardio should I do and how many calories should I consume in order to lose weight?

Answers:

A pound of fat is 3500 so in order to lose 1 pound a week you would need to subtract 500 calories a day either by cutting it out with less food or by working it off. The easiest way to achieve this is by cutting 250 calories out of your diet and working off 250 calories by cardio. If you think the special k will work for you then try it but most likely you'll gain all the weight right after you finish it. I use the website sparkpeople.com. Its totally free and you can log in all your food and they will keep a food diary for you and keep track of your calories. Also, you and log in your cardio for the day. Its kind of like Weight Watchers but its free. I love the site!

If you are moderately active for your height and weight, you need about 2100 calories to maintain the weight you are right now. To lose weight reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories. So you would then be consuming 1600 calories per day. In combination with 40 - 60 minutes of vigorous cardio you should be on track to lose about 2lbs of weight per week. As you get better at exercising, make your workouts longer or more intense to keep burning a lot of calories.

You need to go on a plan that is sustainable for the rest of your life, otherwise you will gain the weight back. If you can do the Special K challenge forever, then go ahead and do it. If you want to make a lifestyle change that will keep that 25 pounds off, look at something like weightwatchers that will help you learn about portion control, how much to eat when you work out, and how to incorporate more quality calories (fruits, vegetables, proteins).

The special K diet is a bit of a fad, once you stop doing it and eating normally you will just gain the weight back and probably even more because the body clings onto fat when it has felt starved.

Eat sensibly from every food group and do cardio evey couple of days making sure you get your heart rate up to burn the fat.
