I need one more inch! (not sexual)?!

Question: I need one more inch! (not sexual)?
I am male at age 16. I weigh about 145. I am 5'11 almost exactly (slightly taller). I play sports, and I try to lift but refrain from squatting and stuff like that because I fear it will stunt my growth. Regardless I heard zinc can help you grow taller, so i take it But please give me tips, don't be vague or general. Give me specifics. Like if you tell me to eat healthier give me ideas on what I should be eating, how often. Please I need to hit 6 foot. Thanks in advance!!

P.S. I don't do high heels

Answers:

You need it for what?

You seem to be in a hurry to hit 6 feet (is that some kind of sports regulations?).

You’re 16...you still have like 5 years of growing up ahead of you, I would say you’ll be at least 6’2 as an adult, like Arnold Schwarzenegger who lifted weight gently so he did not mess up his growth.

There’s a difference between wanting to bulk up (gaining muscle mass, getting stronger, gaining weight) AND getting taller.

I had a 4 inches growth spurt at 16...in one month! (Officially documented but I started by being shorter than average and very tiny) at a sport summer camp, being active all day long and eating ravenously...no weight training, just walking, biking (100km rides, 62 miles), swimming in the ocean and playing sports and games all day long. In less than a month, I learned how to play ping-pong and placed second in the Olympic inter-camps games (I have good reflexes). I went from a tiny little girl eating like a little bird to a ravenous tall growing beast. I also learned that I hated basketball and did not care much about tennis. But I loved bicycling all day long.

Then I slowly, slowly kept growing until I was 21, like an inch more in 5 years (half a centimeter/year).
So...be very active, eat a lot so you can surf your next growth spurt.

Just eat healthy and when you’re hungry.
At sport camp, I vaguely remember lunches and dinners, stuffing my face, after the salad and before the cheese and desert, with pork roast/oven cheesed mashed potatoes, chicken/rice, sautéed turkey/young peas, salmon with gravy/steamed potato, sautéed pork/white beans with tomato sauce, spaghettis Bolognese, hardboiled egg in white sauce/spinach, fish fillet/cauliflower, beef stew with vegetables, veal Marengo-mushrooms & tomatoes/carrots...typical school lunch menu (if you live in France).

Breakfast was like half a dozen bread slices with jam and a lot of chocolate milk.
Then I had snacks between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner and after dinner (tomatoes, hardboiled eggs, chocolate and bread, sardines grilled on the campfire...).

Notes:

People say that lifting weights will stunt your growth for a couple of reasons.

One of those reasons could be that the best bodybuilders are short, so people will assume they’re short because they lifted weights instead of growing. A person needs a certain amount of calories just to be alive, breathing and digesting…the Metabolic Rate. Then you have to add all the calories needed for activities (walking, moving around and doing anything). Then if you’re a growing teenager, you need several hundred calories more just for growth. Weight lifting and building muscle mass require a massive amount of extra calories. It is understandable to think that a person could use his “growth calories” for energy for muscle mass building, and therefore stunt his growth. Even an inactive teenage boy would need between 2,200 and 3,000 calories. He would have to eat more than that if he’s active and even more than that if he’s lifting weights and building muscle mass. Eating thousands of calories every day requires a lot of know-how and discipline, especially if you’re not the one doing the cooking, you cannot just eat tons of high calorie fast food junk and clog your arteries. It could be said that taller men are not bodybuilders because they already require a lot of calories, because of their height, and it’s just too hard to eat more. Also, the body always adapts to your goals…if your goal is to lift weights, you will do that better if you’re short so you have a better center of gravity and the weight that you have to lift over your head will not have to be so far off the ground. It’s a strong possibility that your body could adapt and stunt your growth to make you a better lifter.

Another reason could have to do with the growth plates which are where your bones grow, near the end of each bone, when you’re still growing. Growth plates are very soft and fragile, more fragile than ligaments. Their purpose is not strength; their purpose is to grow more bones. They’re the weak link.

Adults over the age of 21 do not have growth plates. They’re done with their growth and their growth plates hardened and became as hard as the rest of the bone. When lifting weight, you put a lot of pressure on your bones and joints. If an adult puts too much stress on a joint, he will tear the ligament (that hurts!).
On the other hand, if a growing teenager puts too much stress on a joint, he will get a growth plate fracture instead (growth plate fractures used to be life threatening or left you crippled if you survived). Messing up with your growth plates will mess up with your growth. Teenage boys will most likely get growth plate fractures than tore a ligament when being injured in any sports.

men grow clear until they are 25. if your only 16, i can promise you that you will grow another couple inches. take calcium supplements. remember that if you only drink milk for calcium, you actually would have to drink 2 gallons a day to get near the right amount. get lots of rest. the healthier you are, the easier it is for your body to grow. and take vitamin D. it will help you absorb your calcium better.

I think you can grow another inch. don't worry.
