Benefits of giving up caffeine?!

Question: Benefits of giving up caffeine?
I always start my day with either coffee or redbull and when I'm at work I'll sometimes drink up to 4 or 5 cups of coffee. I also drink redbull to help me study and stay alert in class.

I have ADD (without the hyperactivity) as well as depression and anxiety. Caffeine helps me stay focused and on task and a can't imagine being a cashier on a busy day without some coffee. The negative side is that it might be increasing my anxiety and I know its addictive.

If I quit drinking caffeine what would be the benefits? Personal experience would be great.

Answers:

A moderate amount of caffeine is actually beneficial.
I would stop the red bull. The caffeine in coffee is a natural chemical. The caffeine in red bull and all these other caffeinated drinks is a derivative and not necessarily natural.
Try to cut back to a few cups in the morning and none after 5 p.m. if possible.
If you quit cold turkey you will get headaches.
I used to drink coffee only at work (M-F) and it took me a while to figure out why I was having headaches Sunday mornings. Duh?
Caffeine constricts blood vessels and increases heart rate. That can feed anxiety.
The elevated heart rate is the theory behind diet pills.
Good luck.

Why don't you try drinking more decaf? Coffee is actually pretty beneficial, it even reduces the risk of stroke and is great to drink after a workout. I feel like you'd be way worse off trying to quit it altogether. I'm like you I love it and can't imagine life without it. Or try switching to more tea (green tea!) it's REALLY good for you and one cup is about half of a regular cup of coffee.

Sorry I'm not any real help when it comes to the benefits of giving it up - but if you are really determined to quit drinking it start with more decaf or tea and try to slowly wane yourself off of it from there.

Good luck! x

you will have a headache
