Will I lose weight or maintain it by eating 1400 calories a day?!

Question: Will I lose weight or maintain it by eating 1400 calories a day?
I'm a 13 year old girl, 5 feet and half an inch tall, 97 pounds, and i have light exersise (only karate for an hour once or twice a week and walking/jogging at recess every weekday for like 20min)

Answers:

The general rule for calculating caloric need is 10 calories per pound of body weight for weight maintenance with a sedentary lifestyle. To elaborate: u r 97lbs x 10(calories per pound) = 970 calories a day if u layed in a hospital bed doing nothing more than sleeping and breathing. If you walk at all throughout the day you'll probably clock about 3 miles ( 120 calories per mile) 360 (from walking)+ 970(from body weight in calories) = 1330 calories. Add in the random "extra" activities (laughing, lifting items, personal care, chores, playing sports) and you'll be at or above 1500-1600 which is recommended for teenage girls (1800 for boys) and 2000-2400 for adults. Hope this helps.

depends how many calories you need. if you burn more calories than you consume a day, you lose weight, and the more you burn and less you eat the faster you lose weight. but keep in mind that first of all it takes thousands of calories to burn a pound.

but to answer your question...I remember in a health class we had to calculate how many calories we needed a day based on our exersize, metabolism, height, weight, etc... mine turned out to be something like 1600 calories, which is little compared to the average person's, which is about 2,000 calories. that's only because I get very little exersize, or else I'd need more like everyone else. from what it sounds like, you definately get more exersize than me, so if that formula thing was anything to go by, I'd say you'll definately lose weight if you eat 1400 calories a day.

You're not eating enough for a 13 year old unless your goal is to be short and malnourished.

You need more food and as you're still growing should never go below 2000 calories a day, especially if you're active.

Yes but I am 65.

At 13 eating that little can keep you from growing and affect the heart muscle.
