Press ups and Sit ups?!

Question: Press ups and Sit ups?
I recently broke my wrist and changed the routine in which I usually do my exercises. I used to do 30 press ups and sit ups in the morning and 30 in the evening, making 60 a day. I would then miss a day. So I would be doing 60 of each every other day.
After I broke my wrist, I could not do press ups. Instead I have been doing 40 sit ups every day.
My question is, is it better to have an interval between exercises?
Day1: 60 press ups and sit ups
Day2: nothing

or
Day1: 30/40 press ups and sit ups
Day2: 30/40 press ups and sit ups

Answers:

As the other poster said, consult your doctor before doing any exercises that are weight bearing on your wrist.

As for your main question, yes you want to have a rest period between exercises. Your muscles grow during the period between your exercises. When you do strength training exercises, you actually damage your muscle tissue. During the next 36-48 hours, your body uses the protein you consume to repair this damage, and strengthen the muscle tissue. So, don't do your pushups every day. As for situps, your core muscles are fairly dense muscles, so they can be worked out more often. You can probably get away with working them out on two consecutive days, and then taking one day off.

if you have had a broken wrist it may be best to consult your doctor on any exercises that will put any weight on your wrists. See if you can do some alternative workouts that will target the areas that press ups will- some may not be as effective (I am thinking of a elastic tension exercise at the moment) but you wont get completely out of shape.
