How to resist buying chocolate and treats for myself?!

Question: How to resist buying chocolate and treats for myself?
Say if I find £1 or so on the floor, most likely it will be spent on some kind of snack. If I were to ask myself 'do i really want this?' at the time it would most definitely be 'yes' especially if I have had a bad day. And then if it is a giant bar of chocolate or a big pack of biscuits then there are leftovers which I end up eating for days aferwards because I don't want to throw my money away even though I know it is only cheap rubbish. What can I do? I wanted to start my healthy-eating-diet today and I started off really well but now I've completely ruined it and there will be chocolate leftovers for tomorrow, so I will probably ruin it day after day, then feel bad about myself and then go out and buy more. What to do?!?

Happy Red Nose Boxing Day :O)

Answers:

I keep several bars of dark chocolate in the freezer so that every so often, like once a day at breakfast time, I have a tiny little bar off the larger bar of chocolate.

That way, I am not left craving chocolate and I actually find that I don't eat as much of it.

Also, I try to get into the healthy habit of working out and drinking a lot of water and filling up on salads and chicken, etc. so that I am too full to eat unhealthy foods too much.

The number one thing is not to feel guilty when you make a mistake and pig out. If you do that, you only feel more guilty and then you keep doing it over and over in a vicious cycle because you feel badly.

I would say try substituting drinking a large bottle of water and going for a walk when you want to buy chocolate and see if you feel better.

Or saying if I eat this salad (I go to the grocery store salad bar) then I can eat a bar of chocolate later and see if you still feel like eating the chocolate.

Or set a long term fitness goal, such as running a 5K or whatever and devote time to that goal.

There is always something you would like to buy more than food. Think about something like an iPod, a new cell phone, a new computer, gym equipment or stuff like that. Get a small vase and put all the money you find around in that vase. Don't spend any of them and put a note on it with the words: "Save up for _"

dont look at them

I havent eaten ANY junk food for over 2 months now. Ive been training hard and watching what I eat, and i've lost 12lbs. The number one thing i've learnt is not having the temptation right there in front of you. Clear your whole house of junk food, do not buy junk food and keep as far away from it as possible. Food with high sugar content can develop addictions over time and that is why a craving occurs. Find substitute sugars such as natural ones in fruit, juice etc. Even worse is soft drink. It has the highest sugar content than anything else you can buy.

Pretty much dont eat anything that is prepared for you as you don't know whats in it (take away etc), anything that is in packaging pre-made. You have to basically make all your own food because you know what is going in there. Its a long hard road but the rewards are well worth it :) p.s. once u get into the habit of eating healthy foods you wont even look twice at junk anymore...trust me

Freeze yogurt every day and have it ready for you when you get home. It tastes just like ice cream especially if it's chocolate flavored! Try to get it fat-free.

Get some fruits and some sweet but not fatty peanut butter and make desserts with them. Just substitute your favorite junk food snacks for healthier things that satisfy your cravings and keep them all over the place. Here are some ideas:

-Make TRAIL MIX with organic dark chocolate, nuts, and raisins. It's really sweet!
-When you're craving soda, MIX ORANGE JUICE WITH SODA WATER and make your own!
-Freeze chocolate YOGURT. You can also buy plain and put honey in it, it's so good!
-Buy some sugar-free GUM and chew it when you're desperate.
-Instead of sugary cereal, eat OATMEAL with maple syrup for breakfast.
-Instead of chips, drizzle olive oil onto baked PITA BREAD wedges.
-DRIED FRUIT instead of candy. Mangoes are my favorite.
-Make low-fat whole-wheat BANANA BREAD with your bff. It's fun to make AND eat! My fave food!

It's all so yummy! Who needs candy and chips?
