Question: What do i need to do this lose this weight?
first of all im 16yrs old about 160 lbs and 5'10
i have about 12 weeks until summer and i want to lose as much weight as i can
im currently signed up for a gym tthat im going to start going as often as i should. what do i have to eat and how often should i exercise to lose about 5 lbs a week? if thats not realistic then someone help me out. also i have big hips and midsection can someone give me exercises to reduce this. expecially my hips. thanksss :)

It will be very hard to lose 5 pounds a week. That's a deficit of 17500 calories (5 * 3500). You should try for 2 pounds per week. You will need to exercise every day (see http://www.prevention.com/health/fitness for exercises you can do at home and exercises for specific body parts). Hit the gym at least 3 times a week.

First, determine your resting metabolic rate (number of calories you burn if you're just sitting on the couch). Probably somewhere around 1600 calories per day.

So now you need to keep track of the number of calories you eat and drink (try myFitnessPal.com).
Then you need to keep track of the number of calories you burn during exercise (see http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calories…

To lose a pound you have to burn 3500 more calories than you eat. Remember you're already burning 1600 calories a day just by being you. MyFitnessPal.org can help you track this, or any one of the other food journals online.

Now what to eat. Eat an apple 15 minutes before lunch and dinner. Also, you need some good fats, protein, veggies, and some whole grains and lots and lots of water (or herbal tea). A couple of green teas in the morning also helps you lose weight. Eat lots of veggies that fill you up with bulk (carrots, cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower, celery, sweet potatoes, squash, etc).

Since you'll be dieting, make sure to take a multi-vitamin to make sure you're getting everything you need.

Don't eat any fake sugar since it actually makes you gain weight. And don't drink soda since it is just empty calories.

Make sure you eat a couple of servings of lowfat dairy per day since they've done studies that show this also helps you lose weight (lowfat yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese, skim milk, etc).

My mom lost over 100 pounds and all she did was walk and do situps every morning and night, but she practically starved herself. she had extremely small portions and rarely ate. Wish I had her motivation for that. But yeah doing situps will lose fat and tighten your mid section
