Question: Is it better to increase weights when lifting or do drop sets?
My friend suggested drop sets. I always start with low weights and high reps, and then increase the weight and lower the reps.

You're doing it right.
The safest way is to work your way up in weight and down in repetitions.
your better off to do both... first set go light.. and go heavier and heavier.. but after the heaviest set... every few weeks.. add the drop set in.. a very light set after...
