Question: How many calories a day do i need to burn to lose 2 pounds a week?
I use the elliptcal for an hour- burning 750, then the treadmill to get 250, which all adds up to 1000. i started loosing weight the first couple of weeks, but i feel like its taking forever ? need to lose 10/15 pounds

You didn't say how often you burn 1,000 calories, but this is a hell of a lot in one go so you should manage this pretty easily.



You need to burn 1000 more than you consume each day in order to lose 2lbs per week.

Now, a few things to note:

1) The calorie counter on fitness equipment is a rough estimate, so when it says you have burned 750 calories, that may be 500 calories, and it may be 1100 calories.

2) When you start a new workout plan/eating plan, your body will rebel against it, and you will lose a lot of weight fairly quickly. Once your body adjusts to this new plan, your weight loss will stabilize quickly.

3) Make sure you aren't eating more. Many people tend to get a little hungrier when they exercise heavily.

4) Realize that as you lose weight, your body needs less calories to exist, so if you keep eating the same number of calories, you'll quickly reach a point where you are no longer burning more than you consume.



Pretty sure you would have to 1000 more calories than you consume each day. All I know is it takes burning 3500 more calories than you consume to lose one pound.
