Answers:

Yes, going to the gym two days a week is OK. Of course, the optimal goal is for an individual to workout one hour a day, everyday. Every-other-day would be the next best, thing. Twice a week, however, you may find yourself going around in a circle.

Normally, when an individual workout to build muscle, as they workout, the muscle breaks down. Scientifically, this breakdown is referred to as the tearing of fibers. Once these fibers are torn, the body makes an attempt to heal itself. It is this on-going breakdown and healing of the muscle that contribute to an increase in strength and size. When an individual workout everyday, that individual does not allow the muscle time to heal. When the individual workout every other day, he/she allows adequate time for muscles to heal. When an indivisual, however, workout only one or two days a week, that may individual much time for the muscle to heal.

With this much time for the muscles to heal, each workout will be like starting over again. In each work out, you may find yourself being stiff and sore as you were the first time you worked out. If you want any type of immediate progress, you must increase the muscle overload - resistance. This is keen, especially if you want to work out a variety of muscle groups. If you just want to work one or two muscle groups, however, one or two days is enough.

NOTE: Keep in mind this process of muscle breakdown and healing. You mentioned working out on Saturday before your soccer game. this is not a good idea. For your game, you want to be as effective as possible. Practice is not usually as difficult as the actual game. Therefore, you want to be in optimal shape for the game. Be 100%. Working out before the game make you less than 100%. This will put you at a higher risk of career ending injury, resulting from over usage.

The best days to work out is Tuesday and Thursday before training. This will give you a day of rest in between heavy workouts and the game. Be sure to warm up good prior to the games to prevent injury. You would have had two days of rest, which is enough to fully relax the muscles. Also, make sure you are careful of what you eat during your off days. A lot of fattening foods and sweets will also send you on a merry-go-round.

Hope this answers your question!
