How can I lose 3 pounds a week until I reach my goal?!

Question: How can I lose 3 pounds a week until I reach my goal?
I want to lose 50 pounds and am trying to do so by losing 3 pounds a week from now until August. I started eating 1200 calories (fish, egg beaters, veggies, shakes, whole grains, yogurt, etc) , doing 2 hours of cardio and drinking only water (at least 8 cups) everyday. I am eating my last meal at 7pm and excercising afterwards on my stairstepper, however, this makes me crave for food when I am trying to fall asleep. How can I make sure i don't give in to temptation?

Also, what can I do when I go out with my friends on the weekends? I tend to drink alcohol and "pig out" on fast food/diner meals at 3am or whenever we decide to leave the bars/clubs. we also eat at restaurants alot. This really made me gain weight over the past 2 years, but i work hard and don't get to hang out or do anything fun except fridays and saturdays with my friends. I love to go out alot not especially since I'm single and don't want to feel left out. What are some tips to stay on track and not crave what my friends are drinking/eating?

Answers:

First off, your diet is as low calorie wise as you'd want to go: in fact you're over doing it: ease off a bit and eat more food (good stuff, not junk), you're less likely to succumb to a binge. Maybe do less cardio exercise and add some work with free weights every other day: build some muscle.

Second, have an official day "off" every week - this seems to make diets more effective (your body doesn't go into "I'm starving" panic mode). So give yourself permission to enjoy time off. Just one day mind, join a hiking group or take up some other pleasant social exercise activity (salsa dancing? volunteer dog walking for the SPCA?), so you have some fun things to do on your weekend that aren't drinking.

One thing you should do is vary your exercise. If you do the same thing every day, your body could reach a plateau, making your weight loss slow down. Swim, do pilates, walk, run, yoga...there are so many types...and there's a website I use (http://www.iliveslim.com/calories-burned-during-exercise.html) that tells me how many calories I burn during each exercise, which is good especially when you're not working out on a machine that tells you calorie info.

its really important that you eat after you exercise, it helps your body repair and improve itself and it also burns off way more effectively. if you can plan your last meal of the day for after you workout. especially if your doing 2 hours of cardio that's pretty intense.

you probably don't need to do that much cardio as anything you can keep up for more than 1 hour probably isn't intense enough to be doing much of anything. its far more important that you work out hard than it is how long you work out for.
