How much weight can I loose by August?!

Question: How much weight can I loose by August?
I am 27 and currently weigh about 380 pounds. I am 5ft 8in. I want to loose a lot of weight and was wondering how much I could loose? What kinds of meals should I be eating? How many calories? What kinds of workouts should I be doing? and for how long? I am lost. Thanks!

The more overweight you are, the quicker the pounds can come off without being unhealthy. Most diet programs say that the safest amount to lose is UP TO 2 pounds a week. I believe that's mostly agreed upon by doctors as well. It sounds like you do have quite a bit to go so depending on how drastically you change your diet and lifestyle, you might lose more.

About diets... You need to determine what kind of a dieter you are. Are you capable of making immediate drastic changes without completely falling off the wagon? Go for it! If you're like most people and know you'll fail if you go from 0 to 100, then do some minor changes a little at a time. For instance, when you go have your favorite meal at a restaurant, eat only half or 3/4. Leave something on your plate. That will probably shed a few pounds alone and you're still eating WHAT you want to eat, just not as much. Next step would be to cut out a major unhealthy thing from your diet. Are you a big beer drinker? or an ice cream eater? Give it up completely during the week and only indulge on the weekends. The easiest way to do a diet program though is to do one that's been specially created like Weight Watchers. You can do that completely online. It'll teach you how to make healthier choices, while still not feeling like you're giving up everything you love. There are tons of diets out there and the more reputable ones will work for some and not necessarily for others. You have to find the one that works best for you.

Now for fitness.. This is not easy to start if you're not exercising at all. Same thing with the diet.. you should start slow. Get a friend and make them your walking buddy. Having someone to keep you accountable will really help keep you excercising. It also helps if you find different types of exercise to keep you from getting bored of one thing. There are tons of video games designed to help you get in shape. Get a cheap gym membership or simply find a nice route in your neighborhood to take a walk. Get yourself a pedometer and see how many steps you take in one day. Then try to increase it. Park a little further away from the store so you have to walk more. If you really want to start excercising and STAY fit, then you'll need to find what keeps YOU motivated. It might be music, a work out buddy, a video game workout, or dancing.

Weight loss is not easy. Buy yourself a cute outfit in a smaller size that you'd like to make your goal. Hang it up where you see it every day and just imagine how good it'll feel to wear it! Best of luck to you!
