Does wrestling help you lose weight and is it a sport?!

Question: Does wrestling help you lose weight and is it a sport?
My mom keeps telling me that wrestling isn't a sport AT ALL and that it won't help me lose weight. She also said that it would turn me into a bully and I think that's just downright ridiculous. She's around a lot of fit men and I guess she just believes that only sports like soccer and basketball are what sports should really be like. I don't really enjoy any other sport and would really like to go to an activities center and sign up for wrestling rather than a sport I hate like football only to lose weight. She thinks I'll really get into a sport if I play it, but I know that won't happen if I really hate the sport or if I don't find it fun. She claims to have gone to the doctor to ask them if wrestling is a sport and they said no. Since a physician MIGHT have said it then I'm under the belief that it isn't a real sport and won't help me lose weight in the slightest. I'm also talking about freestyle and Olympic-kind of wrestling not professional that we see on tv. I just think she really doesn't like wrestling and wants me to get into a "real" sport. I just wanted the general public's opinion or fact on if wrestling is a good sport to help lose weight or not.

Wrestling is not only a sport, it's a great sport. Wrestling is one of the original strong man sports, this may be hard to beleive, but in the old days athletes didn't even lift weights, basketball players, football, baseball, none of them even strength trained.

The only 3 sports that involved weight lifting were wrestling bodybuilding and powerlifting, it was widely beleived that lifting weights would make you become clumbsy and uncoordinated so athletes were told to not do it, Jack la lanne changed all that but that's another story.

As for does it help you lose weight well any sport will do some good but I'm not sure what kind of conditioning wrestlers have to go through, I know they lift weights to say the least but there's no reason you can't do daily cardio on your own time. It will most certainly not turn you into a bully, quite the contrary.

Wrestling will teach you to defend yourself in a relatively peacefull way, it's better to wrestle a bully into a submission hold than really hurting him by punching his face in or something. I think your mom is just trying to protect you, tell her that wrestling is safer than football because...well it is, even amateur boxing with protective gear is, people don't talk about the dangers of football enough it leads to a lot of back and joint problems.

Wrestling is known as one of the hardest sports, Being a sports player for years I've found wrestling to be the hardest out of soccer, football and basketball. Wrestling is much harder than it looks. It will make you not only lose fat but you will also get ripped from it, but it also depends on what school you go to, my school is known as one of the best so yeah.

I'm a wrestler

hello, I had a diet situation for so long now that it seemed hopeless at the time to try to lose all this weight. I used to be a diet product nuts. Till a friend show me these tips, I was a bit skeptical at first. I saw some results after 2 weeks, but I was feeling good about myself. After that first drop of weight, which was such a confident booster, I started eating right to keep off the weight completely. I couldn't be happier. Yes, it is a sport, In fact it's a sport in the Olympics! Tell your mom that!

Wrestling is by far the hardest sport i have ever done in my life. i played football, basketball, and soccer. None of them are even close to how tough wrestling is.

And now the weight part, at the beginning of the season, i weighed 129 pounds, but at the end of the season i dropped to 116 pounds. People lose way more than that, it's just that i didn't have that much fat to start of with, for example our heavy weight started at 267 pounds, but now he weighs 230.
Wrestling is a demanding sport, it's not for wimps and people with no heart, you need to sacrifice time to become a good wrestler.
