good first workout or not?!

Question: Good first workout or not?
i'm an 18 year old girl, 5'1 and weigh about 160 pounds. i want to lose at least 40-50 pounds. i just had my first workout "session" today and was wondering if i did enough or not?

this is what i did:
10 minute walk warm-up (walk to the track)
1.5 mile jog/walk
4 sets of 10 push-ups
3 sets of 25 sit-ups
2 sets of 10 leg planks
2 sets of 10 twisty situp things (not sure what they're called, but used to do them in gymnastics)
10 minutes of stretching (trying to get my splits down again)
10 minute walk cool down (walk home)

was this enough or should i have done more? also, is my weight loss goal of 40-50 pounds realistic and how long would it take if i work out everyday and eat healthy??

Answers:

Wait until tomorrow and see how sore you are. If you aren't very sore, you're fine. If you are very sore, you overdid it. Everyone is different as to what they can do at first. You say you used to be in gymnastics, so you probably have a good background of fitness to build on.

The key to healthy weight loss is healthy nutrition including portion control along with exercise. You need to do cardio 3-4 times/week and strength training 1-2 times. Start with just a few minutes then gradually add time and intensity until you are doing 45-60 minutes at once. Change up what cardio you are doing every 4-6 weeks to keep your body from adapting and hitting a plateau.

Your weight goal sounds similar to mine. 1-2 pounds/week is considered a healthy reasonable weight loss. You may lose more at first as your body adapts to healthy eating and exercise, but should stabilize around 1-2 pounds/week. Also, remember some weeks may not lose anything, or even gain a little, but as long as the overall trend is down, you will be fine.

If you are looking at getting into running, check into the Couch to 5K program. It takes you from no exercise to running 3 miles (5K) after 2 months. Google it. I can't remember the exact link. Something like coolrunning.com has the most reasonable plan. Plus, it's free with schedules and everything.

Yeah, that's definitely enough but don't overuse your body.
I advise you to do this every second day, and don't do it on Sunday's, go for a jog everyday.
Don't eat from cafes or eat fast food more than once a week.
And, then in several months possibly weeks you might lose 40 pounds.

that is to much for a first work out u should slow down ur pace

That's a good first workout. Here are two suggestions I have for you:

1. Be careful not to do too much exercise too fast. Many people trying to lose weight overdo it in the beginning and end up burning out or getting injured. Make sure that you give your body enough time to recover from your workouts.

2. Skip the sit-ups. Sit-ups work the hip flexor muscles more than the abdominal muscles and they can be hard on the lower back. Do crunches and reverse crunches instead.

With regard the whether your weight loss goal of 40-50 pounds is realistic, yes it is - as long as you go about it the right way. Do not drastically reduce your calories. Instead, decrease your calories a little and increase your physical activity a lot. This will enable you to lose body fat without being constantly hungry, without slowing down your metabolism, and without losing muscle.

A good weight loss goal is to lose one to two pounds of body fat per week.
