Answers:

You can't go off of what the treadmill says as far as calories burnt, it lies! However this is tough to answer because I personally don't believe in scales. A pro athlete might weigh 250 lbs of pure muscle. Seems like a lot of weight but in perspective its from muscle, which is healthy. Id say to try jogging or even running on the treadmill in intervals. Do around an hour or so of cardio a day, don't over do it. You should life weights because muscles burn more calories than fat. Meaning the more muscle you have, the faster metabolism you have. Make sure you are eating whole grains and fruit. Stay away from red meat, once in awhile is okay, and treat yourself once in awhile to a little bit of sweets, but don't over do it. Try taking in between 800-1200 calories a day and that should do it. Also watch your fat calories and sodium intake. Drink skim milk and reduced fat dairy products. If you are iffy on something, don't eat it. Also make sure to take a multivitamin and drink plenty of water!!!

I've dropped 4 jean sizes in the past three months with vigorous exercise and a well balanced diet.

To lose 1 lbs you have to burn 3500 calories.

Your basic amount of calories to consume daily to maintain your current weight is around 2000 cal.

1000 calories a day is too low, since you personally NEED a minimum of 1300 calories just to function! So basically, your body is feeling deprived and will actually make losing weight difficult for you. Try to eat a little more then you are, not much and you will be okay, because judging on your description of excercising, you will need about 1500 calories a day. So I would be patient, especially since you quit smoking a while ago. I know a lot of people who have done that and every one of them gained weight, it is a strange bodyily reaction.

Hope all goes well for you!

53.2 Cal.

about 1, 200-1,500 calories eaten a day should be enough. No less than 1,200 of calories though! I suggest you meet up wt a nutritionist who will provide you a food guide. I did that. For my 1, 500 calorie diet I was told to eat 6 carbs, 7 proteins, 3 fats, 2 dairy, 3 fruits, and 5 vegetables. So, for example, 1 oz of bread would be a serving of carb or 3 cups of popcorn=1carb; 1 fat= 5g; 1 serving of dairy is like 1 cup of milk or yogurt; 1 oz of meat(ex: pork)=1serving of protein or 1/2 cup of beans=1 protein and 1 carb; 1 banana=1 fruit; 1/2 cup cooked vegetables=1 serving or 1 cup raw veggies= 1 serving. Remember to vary the foods you eat--you want all types of whole grains, veggies, proteins, etc. To monitor yourself, I suggest you buy a food scale ($20-$25) and have measuring cup wt you and measuring spoons. This will definitely be beneficial to you! The norm is to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Whatever you do remind yourself that the ultimate goal is to adapt a healthy lifestyle of eating and exercising and the weight loss is the result of that.
