I've got no money, and I'm under eating just to make my food stretch. !

Question: I've got no money, and I'm under eating just to make my food stretch. How can I keep healthy?
I literally have exactly no money for food. I'm mostly living off of two pb&j per day, and trying to spread out the little pasta I have over the next two weeks. I know that's not enough, and usually I make sure to eat plenty in a day. I'm worried about getting sick or ending up with a bunch of weight gain once I have food again. How can I prevent that?

Hi Karyn. I'm sorry that you are in a situation where you don't have enough food. Did you ever check to see if there's a food bank where you live. Most places have them now days. I live in a smaller town, and even we have a hugh food bank, where you can go get a bag of food if you need it ( no questions asked ). A lot of churches provide the same services. There's a lot of help out there, if you look for it. You shouldn't have to go hungry. Eating PB&J, and pasta everyday is not a healthy diet. You're not getting any fruits, vegetables, or dairy, in your diet. I use to have an eating disorder, and ate very badly for quite a while, and i did a lot of damage to my body by not eating properly. I'm paying dearly for that now. I never knew how important nutrition was, until i started having health problems from not eating a healthy diet. Sorry, i don't mean to preach to you, your post just made me sad. I hope you will look into the food bank thing. If your worried about weight gain from eating a lot of food, just make healthy choices when you do get food. You can probably eat a little more, because you have not been eating enough now. I wish you the best. Take care.

I hope you can find a way to get enough food in the near future.

In the meantime, I would suggest taking a daily multivitamin to provide some of the nutrients you will not be getting on a limited diet. I think you can get a one year supply of the store label for about $10 at a Walgreen's or another drug store.

Fresh fruits and veggies are dirt cheap, if you dont mind the flavor of some of them. Just dont worry about the organic and preservatives kinds

Eat groundnuts .They are very cheap and nutritious.100 grams will provide you 50 grams of good fat as well as 35 grams protein and 3 to 5 grams of fiber.

Try and purchase food that goes a long way. And try not to over eat when you have more food
