It will do you good, but don't start off to hard. Take it easy in the beginning and then you can continue "harder".
Actually in my experience "dieting" is bad despite popular belief. What I recommend is eat 4 or more times a day (every 2 or 3 hours that your awake) and do multi joint exercises with around 90% of your max (5 or 6 reps being all you can do) and eat meats (grass fed preferably, but if you can't get that then get lean cuts) , veggies, and fruits, and tree nuts. If your really wanting to get in shape you HAVE to give your body all the nutrients it needs in order to grow and lose weight properly. Another words 1500 is not enough really, but it depends on your activity level and what foods you eat and how much rest you get...
