Why do I gain weight when I work out?!

Question: Why do I gain weight when I work out?
I've been working out for two weeks, four times a week. I work out hard and I do a lot of cadio. I have the same diet I did before I started working out. I am gaining weight! I expect muscle to be apart of it... but dang... when will the fat go away?? :(

Answers:

Right now you are probably putting on more muscle than you are losing fat, not to mention that muscle weighs more than fat. Eventually, the amount of muscle you gain per week will decrease to the point where you will see a weight loss due to fat being burned. If you haven't decreased your calorie count at all, however, you should expect it to take a little longer. Try trimming 250-500 calories from your diet a day. Expect to see actual weight loss around the 4-5 week mark.

Two reasons.

1. You are building muscle mass if you are watching your diet (not eating any damn thing you want like Cheetos and Hershey bars). Muscle WEIGHS MUCH MORE than fat. It is very dense. You will LOOK leaner but the SCALE will tell you you are heavier.

2. You may be eating too much - of the WRONG foods. You have to be careful about appetite VS working out. If you work out a lot (especially weight training) you will get VERY hungry. You should try and curb some of this ravenous eating by eating non-fat cottage cheese and yogurt (non fat) between meals rather than those calorie rich protein bars. They are glorified candy bars! Beware. You can EASILY out-eat your workouts. Eat as many leafy greens as you want (sans the salad dressing). Popeye was right. Spinach is good for you! So are egg whites, and broccoli and beets and fruit. Candy and junk food are poison. I have a friend that has cold sores and she breaks out constantly if she eats poorly. That's a sign the body is weakened by the bad food!

But be careful not to eat too little and too lean.
Remember there is a difference between looking LEAN and looking GAUNT. You should look lean and healthy and buff. You should be careful you don't just get "skinny" and look gaunt and unhealthy.

25 years of experience. I know what I'm talking about.

You must get hungry after all that exercise and tend to eat more without noticing. Try to eat healthier, less fattening foods before and after you work out. If you recently started working out, you shouldn't put too much pressure on yourself. Start and increase slowly.

Muscle weighs more than fat so your fat is probably turning into muscle alone with absorbing calories that you are eating. Usually you have to work out for about a month to see if you are loosing weight.

u need to also eat different

Yes you gain weight because your muscles are growing. fat wont go away in just two weeks.

You feel more hungry and tend to eat more
