Question: I ate expired salad dressing?
So it was Italian Dressing.. And it expired on January 10th 2011... its March 29th today .. Could I get food poisoning? .. I feel some what sick ...

Answers:

As italian dressing is made from mainly non-perishable ingredients, it would seem unlikely that you've been poisoned by the food. You could be feeling sick just as a psychological reaction to the fact you know you've eaten something past its sell by date. However, I don't know what exact ingredients are in the dressing you ate; if there's dairy or something in there, you're much more likely to be a bit sick eating it if it's out of date. See how you are doing in a few hours :)

You feeling sick could just be in your head. If you ate the whole salad with the dressing on it, then wait for a good amount of days and watch for anything out of the ordinary. Drink reasonable amounts of water to wash out your stomach. If you remember it looking odd or moldy, then call a doctor. If you ate a few bites and looked at the expiration date and threw it away , then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If it was sealed and unopened, it's fine.

If it was open and in your fridge the whole time, it's probably still fine.

Did it look, smell, and taste OK? Then it was fine.

Think about what Italian dressing is - mainly oil and vinegar. These things don't go bad, at least, not for a really really long time.

Oh My God. This is a very serious matter. The maltodextrase starts breaking down after about a week of the expiration date. Contact the closest poison control to pump your stomach. Just kidding, you should be fine. You feeling sick is all in your head.

I think it's OK. If the oil had been rancid, you would have tasted that right away. You may feel sick now because of your uneasiness about what might happen. I would relax. I don't think it would have gone bad with bacteria.
