Why don't I gain weight?!

Question: Why don't I gain weight?
I am a 17 year old guy and I cannot seem to gain weight. I am 6 feet tall, have a 28inch waist, 38 inch chest, and I only weigh around 135lbs which is borderline underweight for my age on the BMI. It's not even that I am weak and scrawny, I have good muscle mass, a six pack, and am pretty solid. I eat a good healthy diet and eat lots of protein. I semi-regularly do cardio exercises. I have a couple friends who look even skinnier than me and they weigh more, so why do I not weigh very much? I'm healthy so I'm not overly worried, I'm just curious. Thanks!

This is my girls account:
I am a male, 20 years old, 6'2, and 160lbs.
I know what you mean about how your skinny, I was all through high school. Same with me, I have a very fast metabolism. Its nothing to worry about, just keep doing what your doing and in a couple of years your metabolism will slow down and you will slowly start to gain weight. I can out eat anyone and not have to do a thing to lose the weight, its simply just how our bodies work. Nothing to worry about, I've have listened to others talk and they say when we get older we will look very well in our older years, more full and not just chunky.

Genetics play a big part. Im 18 and just under 6 foot and weigh 11 stone 9 and workout reguarly so im quite muscly but im still quite light for my size. Both my parents are slim and ive found that i have never put on weight and it takes a long time for me to put on muscle whereas some of my friends that workout put it on much more effortlessly even if they dont eat aswell / workout as much so genetics play a big roll. If you have slim parents and grandparents that could be a reason why your light and genetics can skip a generation so it might be that even if you dont think it.

You must have an extraordinary metabolism, that's all.
Also, there is that fact you're 6 feet tall. You're weight is stretched out. Try eating things like cliff bars to gain weight and energy.

Guh, I can see where you're coming from, though. I'm 5.7, and weigh about 115.
Not to mention my brother is 6.2, and he eats junk all day. He's a literally a toothpick.

Me

Drink a GALLON of WHOLE milk a day. Eat plenty of eggs, lean ground beef (or other red meat), tuna, almonds, walnuts, whole-wheat pasta, multigrain bread, beans of all sorts, and plenty of raw vegetables and fruits to balance it out. You should be eating a meal every 2-3 hours. You should be consuming between 200-4500 calories a day. Also make sure you are getting no less then 6 hours of sleep a night.

Get a workout that looks like this, and make sure you start with a fairly heavy weight 75-100 lbs:
Workout A:
Squats 3 sets of 5
Bench press 3 sets of 5
Dead lift 1 sets of 5

Workout B:
Squats 3 sets of 5
Shoulder press 3 sets of 5
Power cleans 3 sets of 5

Alternate every other day (EX: Monday – workout A, Wednesday - workout B, Friday - workout A. Next Week: Monday - workout B, Wednesday – workout A, Friday – workout A. Etc.) Add 5 lbs everyday (10 lbs to dead lifts). You should warm up for each lift like this:

2 sets of 5 with just the bar
1 set of 5 with 25% of the weight
1 set of 3 with 50% of the weight
1 set of 2 with 75% of the weight

You can add dips to the workout if you also want prettier arms.

Everyone has a different metabolism rate; the majority having a hard time eating less. Is/Was anyone else in your family tree skinny as well? I ask that because it's usually a family heritage issue.

I understand gaining weight can be as difficult as losing weight. Check out the product Carnation Instant Breakfast w/ 560 Calories or Nestle Boost w/ 360 calories. They both are fluids that contain all the nutrients you need everyday and packs a load of calories in a small bottle. They are less thick than protein shakes and has a very appetizing taste.

I'd also download a program or application on your phone/computer that keeps track of your calories, calories burnt, and what you need to consume to gain your ideal weight.

I'm also very skinny myself and I've gone as far as visiting a doctor who specializes in acupuncture/herbs. Let them know your problem and they will focus mainly around your stomach area. Ask for some herbs that can soothe your stomach. You will have to go once every week for about 2-3 months. It's a slow process but it's been proven highly effective.

Excercise is also important but i would avoid running/jogging and only do heavy lifting. Do not excercise every day but only 3-4 times a week. You need to let your muscles rest and repair or you might not see much results.
