What is a good way to beat cravings when dieting?!

Question: What is a good way to beat cravings when dieting?
I am finally trying to do something good for myself. However I am hitting a wall while on this diet. How do you deal with cravings for salt, sugar and carbs? I have tried to distract myself, but all I can think about is pizza! For a while I would excercise when I would crave until the cravings went away, but it's not working anymore. I want piiiiiiiiizza, but I want to NOT be fat anymore. I have heard pressure points work sometimes and certain smells can kill a food craving.. any suggestions, preferably from someone who has gone through this.. ?

Answers:

I think your diet is not giving you enough enjoyment. You aren't necessarily craving pizza itself, you just want the enjoyment of tasting delicious food with good flavors and textures, and feeling full. This means what you are eating now isn't good enough, and isn't making you full enough.

This means you need to start looking for better tasting recipes, or ways to liven up the food you are eating now without making them unhealthy. You like pizza, but its not healthy because of the bready crust, the cheese and the pork products. How about chili? It's definitely not boring. Find a recipe you can make at home using lean turkey, plenty of vegetables, herbs and spices. You can make it taste great and you can eat enough to fill you up. Do the same with home made spaghetti sauce, tuna or chicken salad. Keep trying and experimenting until you get about ten to fifteen recipes you can make at home, the way you like them. Get full at lunch and dinner, but don't overeat.

A good way to prevent yourself from overeating at meals is to provide yourself with high fiber snacks between meals. Prepare sliced carrots, celery, cucumbers, bell peppers, etc. This will give you fiber which makes you full, but without much in the way of calories. You can also eat nuts like cashews and walnuts but NOT peanuts. Have a healthy snack at midmorning and midafternoon and you will be more full at mealtime.

If you are looking for a sweet treat, try eating two or three tablespoons of plain yogurt (no sugar added in) with a teaspoon of honey. Honey is sweeter than sugar, lower in calories, and actually fights fat.

You can still eat those kinds of things, but they need to be portion-controlled. Try a lean cuisine or weight watchers pizza. They also have 100 calories snack pack items like baked cheetos and even 90 calorie snickers ice cream bars. That's what I eat.

Try a home-made pizza. They're fun to make, taste great, and you control just how much greece goes into it. :)
