How do I start doing sit ups?!

Question: How do I start doing sit ups?
Before anyone tells me about spine issues, or whatever, I need to do these as I plan to enlist. I will be doing them on yoga balls whenever possible, so please no lectures.

Anyway I can do them fine with the tiniest little pull using just ONE finger, but I can't seem to sit up with hands at head or crossed over chest. It's actually been like this for as long as I can remember. How can I work up to normal push ups?

Answers:

Get something or someone to hold your feet. Workout music can help sometimes. If both of these strategies fail, start doing lighter ab exercises to build up your muscles. Eventually, you'll get there.
Push ups can also be built up to by lifting light weights (about 2.5 pounds) in each hand for 3 sets of 10 reps. Be sure to get the right form though: no butt sticking out and going down until your elbows make a 90 degree angle.

if you put your feet under something then it will help isolate the abs and make them easier then you can do them without help from your arms.
