Eating disorder help please?!

Question: Eating disorder help please?
I have been a binge eater my whole life but I never thought of it as a problem.I am almost 18 and I am 5"5 and 150 pounds so probably about 5 to 6 years ago I started yo yo dieting and that kept me from getting too too big I think. since I can remember I can't get through a day without thinking of food and have had an unhealthy relationship with food. Over 4 months ago I started purging and I resolved to stop but I don't think I should tell anyone I mean I only was doing it for a few months though I do still have urges to throw up. It's not like I'm really bulimic .... Am I?. My mom and I aren't close so Iive with my sister and her husband Nd their two babies and I feel like I shouldn't tell them cuz they will just get mad and they have enough to deal with and things to worry about and I would tell a friend but I really don't have any cuz I have become so isolated. What do I do I don't have a car to go to therapy, Is it possible to get better alone?

Answers:

well, you're not alone. you have the internet.
I would suggest joining a support group there
you're not overweight and its okay to eat twinkies sometimes
just try to eat healthy overall, work out and don't throw it up

here is just a simple google search, although you may need a specific support group.
ask people on there if they have messengers

you're not the only person in the world dealing with this problem and you seem to be doing it responsibly. Just keep talking to people about it. They don't have to be close to you, they can help.

i'm a male and stopped eating almost completely after a friend passed away. I was 5' 10" and weighing like 103. When I couldn't walk up a hill at the park I changed my life. Just be who you are.

I rarely check my email but I will in the next couple days if you have anything to say

you need to tell someone, thats not gonna go away on its own. However, maybe makeup a reason to go to the therapist, like your online friend died or somethin. What you tell the therapist is confidential.

yes the best person to help you is you

I can't tell if you are bulimic, since you haven't given enough detail. If you've been binging and purging at least twice a week for 3 or more months, then you're bulimic, but if you eat a normal meal, then throw up, that's not bulimia. Nevertheless, it's still an eating disorder that needs attention. Your family might have a lot to deal with, but you are still a part of the family and you are important, so that doesn't mean you have to be overlooked. I know it's scary but if you want to get better, you need to tell someone. You can't really do this successfully on your own because it's a psychological disorder. Tell your sister if you and her are close. If they love you, they will understand. They might react badly at first, but if they do, they will get over that and get down to getting you help. You really do need to tell someone, and it's really good that you've recognized the problem and want help. I hope that you can get through this. It's not going to happen overnight. It will take time and patience, but you need to get up and help yourself, because no matter who you tell, you won't truly get better until you REALLY want it. Good luck.
