Question: What can happen if I do push ups everyday?
Say one day I do push ups and lift weights the next I just do push ups and cardio..will i gain muscle? (push ups would be around200)

Answers:

Don't do it every day, or you'll hurt yourself. Your muscles need at least a day to recover between workouts, so that they can repair themselves and grow stronger. So you should do the pushups and weights one day, cardio the next, then strength training again, then cardio again, et cetera.

Pushups are a great workout, btw. Just make sure you're doing them properly. I was kind doing them wrong for the longest time, but once I learned some proper techniques, I've had much better results. Over the past month or so, my triceps and pecs have noticeably gotten bigger. You just gotta remember to rest, though. If your muscles are still sore even after two days, don't try to work out - you can hurt your muscles doing that, and make the recovery period last even longer. Or worse...

Good luck! :D

Pushups target a numerous amount of muscles in your upper body. So, you should always start off your workout with at-least 5 min of cardio just to get warmed up and loosen your muscles. If you are doing hardcore lifting trying to gain alot of muscle you should focus on different muscles every day. Also, to gain muscle you do heavy weights and less reps, to get toned light weight more reps. If you are doing weights, you can do pushups the same day. but I would not do pushups the day after because you are not giving your muscles enough time to heal which gains muscles. Cardio is the best thing you can do, and space out your weights. One day biceps and tris, next day lats and pecs, next day leggs and back. and just keep rotating every day so you are giving your muscles a rest!

Big workout person... much experience.

Your muscles need time to recover. Most likely you would experience muscle fatigue. You would not be able to continue to do as many push ups and you could become weaker.

If you want to gain muscle you should gradually increase the intensity of your workouts but take two days off at the end of the week. I keep track of my progress and try to improve. In the summer I bike long distance. Each week I try to improve the distance or speed. As a result my leg muscles keep getting stronger.

My experience

You will atrophy - not grow.

Muscles grow and repair themselves while your sleeping and at rest. If the repair/growth is extensive, it may take more then one night. Rest is JUST as important as your workout. Work arms one day, then legs another. Rotate your workouts in intervals that your body can grow and rest at the same time.

200 push-ups wont grow muscle- at all. It will only keep them at the same level, or build endurance, but not size. To grow muscle (ANY muscle), requires heavier weight (resistance), and lower reps to reach hypertrophy. Again - High reps is endurance only - not build.
