Answers:

You will need to things, most importantly; exercise, less importantly; nutrition, and by nutrition I mean what food you're eating.
Firstly, you will want to become regulated with exercise. I suggest:
Early morning runs.
Swimming.
Join a dance club.
This is quite easy because you can join clubs at school, maybe have a friend in the 'hood to run with and so on.
Secondly, you need to eat smart, and watch what you eat. I'm not going to say don't 'snack' sometimes but one of the main reasons people are 'overweight' is that they do not know how many calories they are really consuming. It's easy to keep track of your meals calorie mass, but snacking is like cheating. Eat fruit and veg obviously, as they are healthy, but try and keep to fruit like:
Apples
Grapes
Oranges
NOT fruits like:
Bananas (even they're lush.)
This is because fruits like apples and oranges are sugary carbohydrates and have a low GI therefore when a person eats them at any time through the day they are not ingested to quickly therefore not sending a rush of insulin which basically creates excess fat. (I'm not going to get into detail.)
Another thing: You need FAT in your diet!! But stay away from SATURATED FAT and try and eat lots of MONO-UNSATURATED fats, for example walnuts, even peanuts! Look it up.
Conclusion:
Exercise daily!
Don't eat saturate fat's e.g: Chips, chocolate.
Eat simple carbs not complexed carbs.
Try not to snack to much.
And have a positive attitude.

Look up what I have said for more information,

Luke

run! It's spring time get outside! an exercise ball with help you to tone up after you burn fat with cardio. It is a common misconception that crunches will make your tummy small and flat. You have to burn off the fat before you can tone. Taking long walks for around 45 min every day helps too. I also like jump rope. You could probably see your bones when you were 13 because you did more kid things like riding a bike playing tag. As we get older we become much less active and don't notice it. Homework takes up the hours that used to be filled with active fun.

Wow wow wow if you could see your bones that would be unhealthy! Obviously in some places like the elbow you would but really it's not good to be really skinny! Check your bmi online to see if it is average and if so then don't lose weight. If you are overweight now then consider taking up running or go to the gym. At home try general toning exercises such as sit ups for your belly, squats for your legs ect. Try looking at wikihow for more ideas on how to tone up. But remember, don't over-do it! Good luck!!x

Health and Fitness are ongoing things. I don't have any direct experience with your question, but when I had my own health problems, I got my best answers from old crow ink. They are the only web site I've found that seems to have a variety of good health programs. Try their Health Notes page.
Hope you do OK

the same way anyone exercises to loose weight. stop eating junk and walk 30 minutes a day.

40 pounds is a lot for a 16 yr old to be overweight. Next time stop when you are 10 pounds overweight....

Running helps alot. if you dont want to be outside, buy a gym membership and run on the treadmill for at least a mile a day. you should lose alot of weight.

to be honest just start running haha.

Start running.

Or better yet, start Crossfitting. http://crossfit.com/
