Pub and diet dilemma?!

Question: Pub and diet dilemma?
I know this is stupid, but here is my "problem":

I am on a diet at the moment.

My close friend keeps inviting me to the pub, to have a drink with her and her boyfriend.

I keep saying no because I don't want to be drinking alcohol when I am trying to lose weight asap.

I don't want to explain this to her, as she thinks diets are stupid ( since she never puts on weight even though she eats junk only)

(I don't want to go to the pub, but not drink anything - I would feel stupid doing that in front of her boyfriend that I don't know that well. I hate being THAT girl who is on a diet )

I keep suggesting we meet up in the day somewhere, but somehow, it always ends up with her not being able to, and then suggesting we meet at the pub later on.

What do I do? I don't want to lose her as a friend because of this!

Answers:

I am in the same dilema as you at the minute, Recently i started drinking, now I wish to stop because i hate when i get drunk because the 2 times i have only ever get drunk, i enjoy to start off with then at the end of the night i find myself crying and not knowing why or having a panic attack, Also all of my friends are the thin ones who eat junk all the time and drink excessively, it just seems unfair sometimes and also frustrating :(

Perhaps you could invite your friend over for a night in like watch a film, face masks, to avoid going to the pub! Or if you do decideto go out you could just say that you can;t drink at the minute because you have a headache, or that you are n medication at the minute which requires you don't drink! x

You could decide on a limit for your alcohol intake, and stick to it.

Extreme diets are difficult to stick to; a more relaxed diet is easier to manage. If you are embarrassed about trying to improve your figure, then you are very likely to fail at it.

If your friend is worth keeping, she will support your ambition instead of treating you as if you are stupid. If her bf wants to mock you for it, she should support you. He probably doesn't care whether you're dieting or not.

If you make sure that your activity level is high, taking a few drinks now and then shouldn't be a problem. Alcohol 'scores' 7 Calories per gramme, compared to 4 for Sugars & Starches, and 9 for Fats. So it is a reasonably useful fuel, IF you are sensible about the amount you drink, and active enough to burn it all off.
