Is rest necessary when exercising?!

Question: Is rest necessary when exercising?
I have been doing cardio that incorporates weights every day for the past month. I use 5-10 dumbbells and 2.5 ankle weights. My work outs last around 1hr including the warm ups and stretches. Recently my husband commented that I should give my body a 1 day break so that my muscles could have a chance to recover. Is this really necessary? I want to be healthy, so if there is a way a can get away with exercising daily, I won't mind.

Yes, if you never rest you never give your muscles a chance to grow. When you work out your muscles get tiny tears and when they repair that is how your muscles grow. Also, if you don't take days off you are more likely to injury your self. This year i started running 6-7 times a week and ended up with stress fractures in both tibias and had to take a couple months off... it's horrible and I would have been much better off just resting a bit more.

If you rest, then you can get back on and work out even harder. If you don't reset you might quit after a while.

Yes. And for one reason, a chance to heal.
