Wisdom teeth with jawbone removal?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth with jawbone removal?

I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out in a little over a week. All four are impacted, but for the bottom two, they will have to cut part of the jawbone out around them. They told me that I should expect more swelling than normal, but wouldn't be specific. Has anyone had any experience with this? How long should I expect to be away from work?
Also, this will be the first time I've been under general anesthesia or had an IV, and I'm a bit nervous. I don't generally mind needles (I'm a blood donor and have had around 20 shots in the past couple of years for traveling.) but I've heard that IVs are more painful than most needles. The whole being unconcious and then woosy thing makes me nervous, too. :(

Answers:

I had my wisdom teeth out a little over a month ago and also had some of my jawbone removed. The doctor told me I should expect to miss 3 days from work but I ended up missing 2 weeks. After my wisdom teeth were removed my face was very swollen I could barely talk and I also experienced headaches that were pretty intense. I would expect to be off for at least a week and get plenty of rest! To much activity will make the swelling worse. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!!!
