Ok, it's been 2.5 days since...?!

Question:

Ok, it's been 2.5 days since...?

I have had my wisdom teeth removed, the pain has gotten a LOT better, I can only feel a little pain now, i'm being such a hypo about getting a dry socket though, I can't see where my tooth was cause it's on the top right and i can't see the hole, I do see a whitish color of something back there, but it looks like it may be outside the hole, maybe that's my gum reforming in the early stages, not sure,Can someone just tell me that knows what they are talking about my chances of being able to get one. I didn't smoke for the fist 24 hours and I have smoked after 24 hours, I have been washing my mouth out with salt water, the first day I ate ice cream and some cold tomato juice and a hot pocket, I followed what I was told. Also if i'm not taking my pain medication is it ok for me to have my alcohol?

Answers:

It sounds like you are healing nicely. The white you see is the healing process and will continue for another couple of weeks, depending on how fast you heal. You can expect the holes to fill in over the next several months, although you may always have a small indentation where the teeth once were.

It's not necessary to take the pain medication, its there only if you "need" it to ease any pain associated with the extractions.

As for smoking, you should be careful with and try not to inhale deeply. We always advise patients not to smoke for 72 hours but we also know that most smokers are going to smoke. So always rinse well with the warm salt water. I would also suggest that you keep the extraction sites covered with gauze moistened with water (for another day) when you smoke just to play it safe.

Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your healing. I'm sure you are doing fine!

As for the alcohol, you should be fine to drink as long as you don't mix it with the pain medication.
