Jaw Surgery?!

Question:

Jaw Surgery?

Okay. I have a problem with mouth. My top and bottom teeth dont touch. I'm going to have to get a jaw operation when I'm about 18 or 19. They go in, and break my jaw from the inside, and then they wire it together. I was just wondering if any one else has had this surgery.. I am really scared, and I'm almost 15. I know that I have a few years, but I'm scared they will mess up, or it will hurt really bad. So, if you or a friend has had this surgery, tell me if it went well, and the finished product was good. Thanks!

Wow. I am very happy to hear that it wont be terrible. I need to lose some weight any ways, so that will probably be a good thing. ha ha ha.

Answers:

I can answer your question because my daughter had the exact surgery. She had her surgery when she was 18. You don't need to be scared. If you write to me I can share photo's of her before and after. Did you know that your mouth will go temporarily numb and when the feeling returns you will be healed. So pain wise it really isn't that bad.

Before her surgery, she couldn't chew her food as her upper jaw was more narrow than her lower jaw plus her lower jaw was more forward than her upper. They removed her upper jaw, split it, widened it and used titanium pins to hold it together and repinned it back in place in perfect alignment. She did not have her jaws wired together just rubber banded tightly for 4 days.

This surgery is amazing and very worth it!
